My 1.6 Eunos Mx5 and My car history to date!
Discussion
Why hello there, i've just picked up the car i hopefully intend to stick with unlike every other car ive owned!
Wanted a Mk1 Mx5 Since i started Driving but insurance was an issue, now i can insure one for a worthwhile price and i picked one up about 2/3 Weeks ago, Chuffed to bits with it, such a lot of car for the money!
Anyhow before i post about the Mx5 i'll list my rather large car history considering ive been driving 3 years this month!
-Started with a Mk5b Ford Escort 1.3 - Was dead, Cost me £130. 140K On the clock and somehow still ran and never let me down, sounded like a diesel though
-then moved onto a Mk4 Astra 1.4 Petrol, The car i hated the most out of all my cars yet the car i had the longest, i picked it up because it was cheap (£250 with T&T) Was an unreliable heap of crap and it was rubbish to drive, taught me a fair bit about working on cars though as i was constantly fixing the bloody thing.
-Then i got something i wanted, a 1993 EG Civic, only the Carbed 1.3 But i loved it, handled like it was on rails and suprisingly revvy/nippy for a 1.3! Only got rid of this as somebody offered me £900 cash for it, bear in mind i paid £450 for it
-I then got myself a Volvo 340, this thing was immaculate! 1 Owners from new 37K Miles on the clock, paintwork was amazing and everything about it was mint! Id bought a 340 as i wanted to learn to drift/have something RWD however i soon decided i couldnt being myself to ruin a mint old Volvo so i sold it on to an old chap who would look after it like it should be!

-Then bought a Mk4 Escort with an Xr3 CVH Engine fitted, Big mistake, it was a Go-kart, quick for what it was and handled well but it was beat up to hell and not in great condition, sold it on when it failed its MOT badly... It kind of caught fire during an MOT and the MOT tester made me go away!
-Then i bought a Mk6 Escort Mexico, 1.6 Petrol, fairly low mileage, Around 50k ish, i enjoyed this car, it drove nice and i really liked it only got rid of it due to swapping it for something i wanted more!
-I then got a Ford Cougar, I loved this car, still regret getting rid of it, I swapped my Mk6 Escort for it as beleive it or not the 2L Cougar was cheaper to insure than the 1.6 Escort and i've always liked the Cougars, my dad still has his V6 one and he has had it for about 6/7 years now.
-Sold the Cougar for a nice proffit compared to what i paid for my Mk6 Escort and bought myself an E36 BMW 318is, Did the whole stance thing, drove it like a t
t and i killed it, Snapped the crankshaft/destroyed the entire top end. I then stripped it down completely, took the engine out, dropped a 6cyl BMW lump in but had so many electrical gremlims/chasis rust i gave up with it and broke it for parts, i actually made a proffit overall so not all bad.
-I then needed a temp car while i saved some cash, picked up a 1998 306 1.9 Non turbo diesel for £250 with a years MOT and 4 months Tax, ran this for a few months, was so damn cheap to run and nothing ever went wrong, sold it for £450 just before i bought my Mx5.
This brings me up to date, i saw the Mx5 i wanted on the Mx5Nutz forum and spoke to the guy, agree'd to come get it at the end of last month
It's a J Reg Eunos, 87K Miles on the clock, very good service history. All the toys, Air con, LSD, Power steering and a less than 6 month old Mohair roof!
Also it had a full respray in the original colour less than a year ago so the paintwork is VERY good! He also had the sills/arches done by the Mx5 Doctor, it's completely undersealed/not a spot of rust on it!
I paid £900 for it, In my eyes a steal! For one in this condition i beleive i got a really good deal
Anyhow, lets break up this mahoosive wall of text with some pictures of it
The respray:

next to my mates race car in the making, He's hoping to enter tha Mx5 Championship with it next season

Just a few shots of it when i went for a nice hoon!

So far i'm loving it! Its great to drive and with the weather we had last week i was hooning with the roof down all week with a massive grin on my face!
I have got plans for it, once i free up some money (Which im hoping should be ASAP as i've just been offered a full time engineering job!)
The previous owner ordered an offset plate bracket from the Forum before he sold it to me and i quite like how the plate sits with it so i expect that's staying
He also replaced the hood clip things with shiny ones! I like them.
First initial plans are:
-Change the wheels - Not a fan of them personally.
-Coilovers - Not gonig super impractical low but i'd like a nice 'stance' to it
-Nice exhaust system
-Few other little bits such as gear knob, possibly a different steering wheel
-New Discs/pads, I beleive they need doing soon, well they sound like it, i havent investigated fully yet but whatever it is will be sorted!
-Full polybushing at some point.
-Keep it clean and take care of the paint!
And the main one, Drive it and enjoy it!
Gotta say overall for a sub 1K Car it has so much to offer and it really is in a very good condition, im chuffed with it!
Anyhow, sorry for the wall of text, i will try and keep this thread updated as i do things/as it progresses.
Cheers, Dan!

Any pics of the Civic?
Cracking deal you got there on the MX5 - Should last a while, make sure you look after it and don't stance it!
It's just a shame it's in the most dull colour they made.
White
Mariner Blue
BRG (With cream interior)
Black
Red
etc all look sooooo much better!

And yeah im chuffed with the price i got it for, its really tidy! I will look after it and im not stancing it, i am going Lower but not stupid low, my BMW was stupid low: (It aint practical where i live.)

Yeah its a shame its a boring colour, but the silver ones can look nice with subtle modifications

I hate silver in all honesty, but i refuse to turn a good car down on the colour, and it can be made to look nice
