M5 E60 questions
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm looking at an E60 M5 facelift for my next car.
Just a quick one really, is it worth considering a higher mileage one 100,000miles?
I am in a fortunate position where my brother works at Euro Car Parts and gets staff discount, so a Valeo clutch kit would cost me £310, and LUK flywheel £312. Brake discs, pads and sensors (all Pagid) are pennies compared to BMW price.
Obviously all other items like suspension components etc are much cheaper also and easily replaceable.
So, bearing that in mind, is it worth looking at a higher mileage cheaper car, so that I can replace the common failure items straight away?
What I will also say, is that I can afford the higher priced cars, running and maintaining of the car before anyone questions. But let's face it, nobody got rich by spending all their money! I am quite partial to saving money when I can.
The other thing is, I spend most of my time out of the UK, so again, spending more money on something which I am going to drive only 3 months of the year seems pointless, but I want to be able to enjoy it. So do the engines remain strong when they are higher mileage? Do they keep their power?
Thank you

As for the first bit about mates rates then great but does he supply a new SMG and fit that? The box and VANOS are probably the most costly items not consumables like Clutch and Brakes. Personally I would not have mine without a Mondial Warranty on it as they will cripple you if things go wrong. Don't try and run one on a budget.
As for the 100k milers yes they can go on strong for well over 100K, there is a guy on the M5board with well over 200K miles and still going strong.

Fitting at a local BMW specialist has been quoted between £250-£300.
I will look in to the other things you mention also. It's not the fact that I am budgeting, it's just weighing up how much use it's going to get given how much time I spend away.
Thanks for the advice

id not do things just because some cars fail... I've seen people have problems with clutches fitted only a few thousand miles ago were as other have them last 100k.
Im not sure about your logic about looking for a 100k car... just look at ones in your price/spec bracket and take a judgement on mileage... other than ability to get a warranty (which will be void if you supply and fit parts yourself rather than user a BMW dealer) IMHO there is no huge difference between a 50k and 100k car.. even the prices arnt that far apart.
Mines done over 100k and feels like a car thats done 20k... they don't fall apart and were worth every bit of their price new IMHO.
