Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Played it, absolutely loved it. A classic of the genre, though not as well received as I thought it would have been (despite masses of critical acclaim). I suppose, sadly, that the videogaming audience in general has been coddled with 'dumbing down' and intelligent design and innovation are often uncommon traits in newer games...
I'd only played it for two hours when I made the original post. I've since had a couple of longer sessions and think it is sensational.
The stealth element is brilliant and reminds me of MGS4. I've just been to the morgue at the Police Station so I'm really only just started. Can't wait to get back on it!

I bought it last year and got really stuck into it. It's one of those games that you really want to savour and absorb every second of - just like the PC original. For some reason I traded it in (I think I desperately wanted something else). I picked it up on eBay again for £4 yesterday - this thread was well timed! I can't wait to pick up where I left off.
Played through the original Deus Ex, and loved the free form approach to mission based stuff.
Or in English, if there was a building with a target inside, you could, depending on your strengths, snuff them out in various ways. If you'd maxed out your stealth, you could sneak in via the sewer. If you were the consummate sniper, you could find a position atop a nearby building, and bide your time. My personal preference was to be tank like, and charge in the front door Schwarzenegger style.
Which was fine, except it has ruined every game since for me, which forces sneaky stealth sections upon the player. I gave up on Gears of War for exactly that reason. Stands to reason that if I got that far in the game by kicking ass and taking names, that I should be able to finish it that way. No problem with stealth games, if that's what your character was supposed to be (Metal Gear Solid for example), but if I'm playing as a cannon toting commando, I'm going at it like a cannon toting commando.
So, long story short (too late), does Human Revolution retain player choice, or are there unnecessary and impassable (for the uninterested) stealth sections in it?

You can continue to run and gun to your hearts content. So, long story short (too late), does Human Revolution retain player choice, or are there unnecessary and impassable (for the uninterested) stealth sections in it?
Spoiler alert!
I'm playing through for the second time and I've go the opposite problem. I've been taking the stealth approach the entire way through but I'm about to have a 'big boss' encounter and the ONLY way to get passed them is to kill them. I just can't work up the enthusiasm to start the 'try - fail - reload - try - fail - reload .... repeat several times - finally win through routine, before getting back to the game proper.
But it is a great game as was Deus Ex (I didn't even think two was all that bad)

The is EXACTLY where I am! I stealthed and hacked my way around and really enjoyed myself. Only to be met with a rock hard tank of a boss which can only be taken down with heavy duty weaponry. I picked up what there was in the zone, but I can't find the energy to go and re-spec and buy weapons etc. I got through he opening mission ok last night although the hiding / crouching / moving thing takes a bit of getting used to.
what praxis upgrades should I go for first?
hacking seems to be the most difficult element thus far...worth boosting that? all the hostages got gassed last night sadly...

I rescued them
The Praxis upgrades I've taken so far have been the Cloaking System , and CASIE.

I really enjoyed it, but I found it to have little replay value.
I bought it for the first time about 6 months ago, played it, loved it. Tried to replay it straight away but lost interest pretty quickly. Then a week ago I went back and started afresh on the hardest setting and have been playing it almost every night. It does have replay value; its just better to wait a while until you do that replay.CurvaParabolica said:
