Hello all,

Just doing a bit of research into upgrading the brakes on an SG model XT (i used search) and wonder if ive got the following right or people can add some more detail or correct me if im wrong;

Discs + Pads - Various available using oem calipers

Caliper upgrades:
Brembo 'Gold' Sti 8 Calipers - require a hand brake kit and 'fitting' kit to swap them from 115 pcd to 100? Do you need to run 17's to clear them and 314mm disc?

WRX-Pro - Comes as a kit so guessing straight fit?

K-Sport - Big Brake conversion, looks like its only fronts?

Tarox - Big brake conversion, fronts only

AP Racing - Silly money

Subaru 4 & 2 pot calipers - straight fit?

Thanks

The XT uses the brake set up that was fitted to classic Scoobies turbos uptp 98 in the uk.

The first upgrade is therefore 4pots from uk99 (0r STI 98) onwards. The same brakes were fitted to bug eye onwards WrX cars) they are 100pcd.
You'll need all fittings including hoses, but they will bolt straight on, but you will need to swap to 16in wheels from one of these classic cars and swap your tyres over.

Brembos were fitted in 100pcd to STI cars from 2001 to 2004 (except the spec c which was the first to have 114.3). If you get the hoses as wll as disks etc, they will again bolt straight on. But you will need a minimum 17in wheel and types to suit the Forester (STI will be too low a profile).

You don't need to change the rear brakes unless you want matching brembos. the rear brakes you currently have were fitted to all Classics, including the P1 and 4dr STI. The R/RA classics had two pot rears that were also fitted to new age Wrx cars. They are not a direct fit though and require different hubs and shafts.

The front brakes are where the action is anyway so your choice is all about budget.

4pots = all the parts for the front, plus a set of STI or Late classic 16 in rims. Plus the cost of swapping your tyres over.
Brembos = all the parts for the front, plus a set of STI or other 17 rims that fit, plus new types that match the forester rolling profile.

Or just good pads, hoses, and disks for your existing brakes and no wheel or tyre changes.

EVO brembos have a different fitting, so don't go there.
