I do 110 miles a day travelling to work and then take the dogs out after.

So I need a cheap and spacious to run car, I got £2k to play with.

So far the A-class 170cdi and laguna 1.9dci seem to be best for money that ticks the boxes.

I need at least 50mpg for my 95% motorway journey.

Any further suggestions I should look at?

Thanks

VW Passat TDi estate

The non PD 110bhp models are cheaper to buy and fix than the PD 115/130 versions.

Avoid the laguna - dodgy electrics, a dash that invariably will light up like a christmas tree and an unreliable engine.

Personally i'd go for a Passat 1.9 TDI estate.

I'd rather not the 'mini cab' look of a passat, but will give it some thought

I have access to fault code readers and I'm very handy with a spanner so I don't mind small things going wrong

You'll need to with either an A class or Laguna.

320d touring?

Agreed - or an A4 with the 110TDI engine, mine had done 198,000 totally trouble free miles by the time I sold it, a perfect commuting tool though the Audi of that era has suspect front suspension and the exterior door trims rust and fall off.

How about just pulling up Autotrader, sticking £2000 in the max price bit, 'estate' in the body type and a 25 mile search radius?

Surely you don't need the help of the www to buy a shed?

That's what we have (though a 115 and will be getting a 130)
