Mate's car - approx. valuation help?

Hi,

Sadly I'm not an owner myself but a friend of mine has a '08 V8V at 30,000m. He is looking to sell it in 4 weeks or so. He's not really that interested in dealing with buyers etc. and was planning on just selling it back to the dealer he bought it from. Now, my assumption is that he'll get (far?) less than if he were to sell via PH etc.

Do you guys have any idea what he'd probably get private, dealer and part ex? I'm not sure what pertinent options there are that may influence the price, but I'm after a rough guide to hopefully convince him not to take the dealer hit.

It's a dark sage-y green colour with a black interior, if that makes any difference.

2008 cars (with a quick look at the classifieds) are going from @£42k upwards - so bet on -£5k from a dealer depending on spec / condition.

Why not ask a dealer to sell it on commission. They will get the best price possible and some charge a fixed fee.

Good idea! I take it the commission will be a lower percentage of the "top" sale price, compared to a straight sale to the dealer?

Well I know one dealer that charges a straight fixed fee of £3K regardless of the actual sale price. Of course they will try and get the most they can. They will buy outright of course although you will only get market value and that will probably be less than you would get for a private sale.
