So I guess the lady had never heard of caveat emptor then, let alone the dodgy dealer.

I'm struggling to see how this is news in any possible way.

Never, ever underestimate the stupidity of the general public. Assume they're idiots until proven otherwise - and never, ever sell one of them a £500 car.

If it was a trader, are they not responsible for selling a car thats "fit for purpose" ?

She'll probably get some kind of contribution from the seller for the repairs if trading standards are involved and he is a trader.

Of course though, what do you expect for £500.

She cant be that stupid as she bought a 'death-trap' and managed to escape with her life.

Never buy a car without test driving it properly.
Never buy a car from a lay-by!
Never buy a £500 car and assume it's not going to need £xxx to fix it.
Never sell a car to this woman - as she is clearly an idiot!

£500 car needs a few jobs doing, new owner takes it to a mechanic who has more than likely shafted them on the cost of repairs. Looks a tidy car for £900 to be honest.

The catologue of faults that were found must have been really serious if they could only list the rear number plate and a faulty seatbelt??
You expect a roadworthy car but the brakes failing could have been anything - who knows, it might have been a two minute job and the garage reemed her for £400, it's not like she's a bright bulb is she?

Any secondhand car ever bought at any price point should be in perfect, as new condition, ideally with a full tank of fuel and complimentary air freshener.

It's their rights innit?

Want a perfect base model fiesta? I hear Ford will sell you one for around £10k.

Stupid woman.

I don't like traders posing as private sellers but the 500 quid car needing repairs thing is hardly news. The best thing to do would be to just shoot the woman, sounds a little harsh but is most likely the right thing to do
