Best all rounder for under £200?

A friend of mine is going travelling for several months soon, and has asked me what the best all round compact camera I can find for under £200 is.

Unfortunately I know my way round the DSLR market but know very little about compact cameras and what to go for!

So are they all very similar for under £200 or is there a clear winner?
