Anyone else playing The Secret World?
Discussion
MMO set in the modern world with secret societies, monsters, horror, conspiracy theory themed gameplay.
Good fun, a bit different to your average MMO (i.e. not a WOW clone). They are having a play for free weekend if anyone is interested.

OK so thought I'd do a search on this as I've finally started playing this properly and who do I find as the only other players? My favourite PH couple!
You folks still playing (or is anyone else playing?)
I've just got into The Savage coast so still pretty noob (QL3/4 split) but am loving the atmosphere and story lines. Was contemplating joining a cabal but thought I'd check here first for any other players / recommendations

Definitely more liner led than totally open world but for me the thing that differentiates is the atmosphere, the (sometimes exceedingly hard) puzzles and the fact that there's no "level" per se or no particular path you have to choose for your character.
Weapons and Talismans define your "build" and can be essentially swapped out at will, fancy a tanky shotgunner? Go for it! DPS Sword and Assault rifle? Yup!
It's that flexibility that I like and it is of course free to play so always worth a shot. I've personally not found anything that prevent me from proceeding without having to pay so I think the balance is good (lots of vanity items and you can buy boosters etc if you wish)
Overall the biggest win for me is the "real life" world it operates within and the fact that there's a combat mode so it essentially plays as a GoW style 3rd person shooter (with only 7 "MMO buttons") so you don't need ludicrous macros etc and you also don't get horrific RSI!
Couple of images to whet your appetite:

Just bouncing this back up. TSW was relaunched earlier this month as "Secret World Legends", making significant improvements in a number of areas (combat feel, storyline flow, essentially making it more single-player oriented whilst keeping MMO options.

It's a load more fun to play now and I'm scampering back through the areas I'd already finished and about to enter new parts of the story. its strengths remain it's fantastic stories, modern day setting and great puzzle / investigation missions. The Devs are responsive to feedback as well, already making a number of critical changes when they realised they'd not made their paid option sufficiently attractive and made the various free drops insufficiently rewarding for example.
It's still free and very viable as free to play as well. Worth a go if you've dabbled and found the combat too boring or unbalanced or if you;ve never played it before. Think it relaunched on Steam in the next month or two as well

Getting back into this again and have to say the combat is hugely improved. Can't say I'm a fan of the new F2P model though, but needs must and all that.
