Well, I have completed the manifold de-catting and new gaskets / bolts etc and the leak at the manifold seems to have been cured and my "Ticking" noise gone.

I do have a new noise tho...

The exhaust clamps ware the manifold meets the "Y" piece are leaking. Thay were a pain in the arse to line up and get the clamps on them in the first place so the seal is not the best. I'm going to have another go at doing them tomorrow and seeing if i can make a better seal.

Anyone got any advice on how to do this job? I'm tempted to go and get some exhaust putty to roger in there before sealing them back up again.

Don't over tighten it!

Tap it all round the clamp with mallet and then tighten some more keep doing this until it's sealing nicely

Tapping on the "Y" piece side?

I was giving it a good thud with a lump of wood to try and line it up. Got them most of the way in i think. Were cuffing a lot tho.

The y-piece should line up fairly well, and tap the clamps on all round

They must be difficult, my preferred TVR specialist hasnt been able to get my offside one to seal despite many attempts spread over several years.

I've given up worrying about it and just wipe the soot off the swan neck pipe every now and then

Are you using a strap between the two manufoulds to pull them together?... I use one of thoes ratchet things for holding bikes on trailers etc.... you have to pull them together so your strap goes fron one manifould to the other... and pull them in until the Y piece fits... then drop the clamps on....

I've got two cats available to go to a new home.....I need to do some de-catting as my wife is allergic to them. Tortoiseshell and cream, nice natures, purr a lot when stroked...... as do the cats.

Beauty! Used a truck strap between the two fanny molds and chucked some exhaust joint sealant in there (Good stuff actually) And job's a good one ! beer

As for de-catting, if your asking me... Its a pain.

To do it properly you need the manifolds off, and this is a big part of the work.

Then removing the cat materiel its self is a bit of a bugger. Its in there tight and a lot tougher than you might think.
I used a long masonry drill and then an extended wood drill (Thoes big flat blade style ones)

This turned it to mice meat but still took me about an hour a side on and off.
