Part of my Bucket list is to try this drink.
For decades have seen characters in films drink the stuff
not a whiskey drinker, more vodka
foe some reason thought it was going to be a similar to Southern comfort experience.
So just had a can of Cidre and have two fingers of Jack Daniels (ooh err)
have been supping away at it for ten mins and it is f
king awful,
have been pulling faces like a bulldog licking piss of a thistle
another bottle at the back of the cupboard never to see light again.
just thought i would share in case anyone else is inquisitive
Dont

It's alright, not my tipple of choice. I tend to get it bought by a sibling for my birthday, and will have a 'jack and coke' if i want something to sip slowly in the pub. Heavy marketing more than anything is keeping this drink prominent.
That said, has anyone tried Gentleman Jack? Is that any better?

Gentleman Jack is a lovely tipple, not a huge fan of regular JD but it's OK. If you're not a whisky drinker it'll probably all taste and smell the same though.
Much prefer Kentucky Bourbons to Tennessee turps, Elijah Craig, Woodford reserve, Maker's Mark, Wild turkey, all wonderful.

Well, I will break the mould here and say that I actually like it.
4 cubes of ice in a glass, and pour until the tip of the ice is just covered, then leave for 5 mins.
Sip slowly, and I think it is very nice. There are nicer whiskeys out there - Makers Mark, Gentleman Jack etc, but I find the regular stuff is just fine.
Just don't put coke in it!

it reminds me of being a fresher. drank way too much of it, threw up a fair bit of that, and whenever i get a whiff i'm instantly reminded of our halls bar.
as kiteless suggests, makers mark is a far better drink and is very nice on it's own over ice, something you could never say about JD.
