Morning All,

I'm considering parting with some cash to purchase an M3, link below (now working!)..... I've been doing some research and all seems good.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4117260.htm

After some thoughts, opinions always appreciated.....any horror stories out there, any current owners, etc...

Cheers,

Matty

Thanks for the constructive reply, I thought it was more general gassing to be honest...

Lots of people have opinions on certain cars (M3 in this case) as they may have owned them...

Anyway, have a good morning!

In fairness, the BMW section is the best place to go. Some of the guys more in to their chosen marques may not even frequent GG or the more general fora.

Plus it just sort of makes sense.

Cause everyone is so friendly?? :P No worries I'll take my original post over there, I'm a long time watcher and don't usually post so not really familiar with the 'sections' of the overall board.

biggrin It is early, there are hangovers to be dealt with of a Saturday morning wink

But seriously, you should find the information you are after over there. Good luck, an E46 M3 is definitely on my list.

There are a few threads running on buying E46 M3's over in the M power section and questions you may have have probably already been answered there, imo that car is ~£3K over priced. If you're looking at a very late E46 then best seek out a CS model, or stretch your budget a little more and get the best of the breed, a CSL.

Do like the colour combo of the linked car though and it's nicely spec'd.

So I've noticed wink

Currently in a 320d M-Sport but don't do many miles working from home, I miss my E36 M3 so hopefully I can get back in an M3.....but something newer.

Have a good weekend!

It looks an stunning car, however, its very expensive for an e46 and can you live with SMG, they are a marmite gearbox, I've got to be honest I'd find an older cherished example, cheaper road tax, thesecars age really well you see, but I'm tight like that, make sure it has a very comprehensive history at that price it want to be showroom condition, there is a very important running in service that involve retorqueing the conrods, research this and make sure it was done, any doubts walk away, there's loads and loads of these about.

That car is way overpriced, nearly CSL money. Nearly E90 money!

As daft as it sounds, I'd not even thought about it.....thought they'd start around £30k minimum, but seems like there are some out there for £20-21k...

I can push a little further on budget so might have to review my search criteria.... thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Way overpriced for an E46 M3.You will find just as good a car from a private sale for sub £15k.It will also lose money like you wont believe and be sub £10k before you know it.

Since it's the end of the school year, I suspect kids posing as adults will be along soon to shout about how the M3 is 'undriveable' and 'oversteers like crazy in the wet' etc. rofl

Everyone I've spoken to who has driven or owned one says they are great cars for using every day and fun when you want them to be. No idea if you can buy a BMW powertrain warranty with one though.

Yes, you can. The type of BMW warranty available will depend on the mileage on the car and what you are prepared to spend.

I ran an E46 M3 cab for 6 years & a CSL for the last two. Both great cars.

The CSL is a keeper though.

I had/have BMW fully comp warranty on both & would not run one without.

OP, at that money, go & test drive a sorted CSL. It may not be for you, but at least you'll know.
