Lucky escape? A warning!
Discussion
I've just got back after 11 days in the States.
Arrived at the long term car park to find my daily snotter (Mk3 Astra) had it's bonnet popped up!
As I got to the car I saw that my camera case, which had been left in the boot, was on the front passenger seat!
The doors were unlocked and the contents of the glovebox had been dragged out!
My tools had been moved around in the boot.
Satnav had disappeared.
Car park ticket had been taken from behind sun visor and was on seat.
When I opened the camera case I was relieved, and surprised, to find the camera still in there, together with the satnav and my OH's expensive sunglasses which had been in the glovebox!
When driving home the engine seemed a bit rough, underpowered and unresponsive! I pulled over and checked under the bonnet to find one of the plug leads had been pulled off!??
I don't know what the hell had been going on and can only surmise that someone had been disturbed and was coming back!

It would seem they must have been disturbed. Very strange that they should have pulled a plug lead off though, perhaps they thought it the distributor/coil lead that they had pulled off?
Maybe a good Samaritan noticed someone had tried to pinch it, and removed the plug leade to try and prevent it being nicked later.I once came across a car that someone had obviously started to have a go at. I disabled it in a similar manner before calling the police.

CCTV only on entrance and exit.
They allegedly have regular inspections by staff!
They also said that they've had no thefts from cars for years!
Perhaps an inside job? Goodies together in bag awaiting home time before retrieving bag. As to your last paragraph; they would say that, wouldn't they! They allegedly have regular inspections by staff!

I guess that's a possibility, though, would have thought locking the doors would have helped in this respect.I once came across a car that someone had obviously started to have a go at. I disabled it in a similar manner before calling the police.
Good on you for disabling the car in your instance.

ETA: Having given this a tad more thought; re-locking the doors that they have already managed to open, is perhaps not going to further deter them.

- friend lost his Astra GTE twice on one night... first time, the police left it locked, but by the time he'd got there to collect it, they'd been back & were trying to torch it on the field around the corner: second time, we took the coil-distributor lead off...Olf said:

Excuse my ignorance, but why'd you leave a £750 camera in your car?
Especially when you go on holiday? I always take mine with me!
Who said anything about Holiday? I was working!
