Friend is part exchanging his Merc 320cdi for a new one from the local Merc dealer. He has been offered £3000 for the car, he said the garage either want the car or £3000 next week when he picks the new one up.

The car is in ice blue, has 156k on the clock and is the new facelift with clear head lights and wide command system. It is in very good condition apart from two small rust bubbles on the rear arch's. The leather is grey in good condition with no tears or wear.

From looking on auto trader the nearest similar cars on the facelift are £4k approx.

Any views

thanks

Buy it off him. Regularly see these as taxi's abroad with star ship mileage on them.

It isnt a facelift if its a 2002, a 2002 will be one of the very first W211's. The facelift was 2006.

I meant facelift in that it has clear head lights and not the square TV/sat nav that the Y reg/51 plates have.

£3000 for a rusty ten year old merc? I think I would pass. Mercs of this era are renowned for being utter rust buckets.

This thread sums it up nicely: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=2&a...

Where did he say W211?

I think he is talking about a W220 S Class. No model specifically mentioned though.

If you do mean S class, then yes facelift year was late 02 on.

If you do buy it, get the 2 small areas of rust dealt with straightaway by a good bodyshop & also give the car a good steam clean in the arches. 156k miles is barely run in for a diesel Merc if you keep on top of oil & filter changes.

Yep I know they are prone to rust. I wish they were made like the old one's! Hmmmm, I'm in two minds, but it is a cheap S class.
