Been on gardening leave for the past month, in between contracts. So I've done a fair amount of driving locally, which I don't normally do. Gradually, it's dawned on me how appalling driving is nowadays. I thought at first it was just the occasional idiot, but it was happening so often, it became an everyday occurrence. And apologies to the ladies, bks to the accident statistics, you are much worse than men!! Fact. I live in a town populated with a fair number wealthy households. These seem to populate the roads with large cars (with personal number plates) driven by ladies with the ability of a fish. Plus older gentlemen, usually wearing a hat. They proceed at speed limit -10%, slow down/brake whenever the road deviates from the straight, or a vehicle comes the other way. Speed cameras almost get the emergency stop procedure despite not being near the speed limit in the first place. Parking bays are a particularly difficult hazard, so they occupy two to be safe/sure. Reversing is a ordeal. Acceleration, despite most have a superior power to weight ratio, is slightly more than a slug can achieve. kerbing expensive alloys the norm. Even one way streets the wrong way, in a town they've probably lived in for years ! Final idiot today, who accelerated away from the traffic lights after a huge delay in putting it in gear. Found reverse unfortunately !! How the hell did they get driving licenses ?

Indeed, a few week days driving around local towns certainly makes you question how there aren't hundreds more accidents a day.

Ability of a fish you say. I haven't seen the latest fish related accident statistics so I'm only presuming that they are quite low, In fact I have a couple of Goldfish in a tank & to my knowledge they have never once crashed. I can only imagine that fish get very low insurance quotes.

I understand that fish have a memory retention span of about 30 sec, hence my use of them as almost the perfect example to reflect these drivers ability. I thought I covered most of the faults/idiosyncrasies, but I saw a new one this morning! Up the down ramp of Sainsburys upper car park, in an Audi Q7 (personal plates, lady driver ). And to cap it, she almost met old hat man coming the other way !!

I was going to guess at Chelmsford for no apparent reason.

I drive round Essex sometimes for work and also to go to see my football team [Colchester]

and do find the proliferation of oversize SUVs to be driven poorly

I have the perfect reason for SUV's here. They're the only cars you can buy that you will be certain won't suffer wheel/tyre/suspension damage on the bloody Essex roads before you get home!!

Not so: Two fish in a tank and one says to the other "How do you drive this thing?". smile

Plus I see examples of poor driving out of town as well as I drive between jobs at different times of the day. I just do my best to keep out of their way if possible, or just keep well back incase of the speed camera brake test. smash
