Hello!

Just had these fitted to my 2007 A6 saloon

Philips LED Daylight 8 - Daytime Running Kit (DRL) | PowerBulbs

They turn on but are way too dim, like it has insufficient voltage going through them?...they dim as they should when your main lights come on but at that point they are dimming to such a level you can only just see them!

Check the two videos in the link, these should be burning super bright, have they been incorrectly wired?...any ideas?

They are Philips daylight 8's, not some cheap ones from ebay.

They did cost over £100 so yes I'm serius, either they are defective or have been fitted incorrectly. Is there a way they may have been fitted so that insufficient voltage is getting through to make them work correctly?

I bet it looks super and not at all like you've stick them to the bumper hoping it'll make your car look great.

No, LEDs are current sensitive rather than voltage sensitive. However the 6w suggests that they only need half an amp to run, which would need a wire only marginally thicker than tinfoil to operate. You need to check the circuit with a multimeter to be sure.

It sounds however like they are working properly; you aren't supposed to be able to see them clearly when the headlights are switched on because it confuses other drivers.

Here's a video of a working pair.

Any car that doesn't do this has had the lights "adjusted" by the owner.

This looks like one of those threads where PHers excel themselves in ganging up on the OP.

OP - I have similar (cheapo ebay ones!) on my bike - they work like the ones on the Philips website.

Hmmm yes I deliberately didn't buy cheap ones as I didnt want problems....I guess I should have gone for thos £9.99 ones now!...

Just not sure if they have been incorrectly wired or if they are faulty units, will get a different garage to check them out in the week.

I'm glad they don't work, I hope they cause your engine to sieze and a plague of locusts to eat your dinner smokin

In the sp&l forum people buying new cars with these hideous things fitted are checking they can legally turn them off ...... thank gawd.

If you think they are not wired correctly, just go back to the garage that fitted them. Another garage will charge you to fix them.
