V8 Coolant and Engine Sensor
Discussion
Hi Mate..If its the coolant temperature sender then i think you might have to match it with the temp gauge as they have corresponding ohms..Might not be the same with yours but my 280 gives a totally wrong reading due to this and a friend had the same issue recently with his 350i..He subsequently put the old one back in...Ziga
Hi,
I recently bought one of these for my 350i. The gauge in mine was manufactured by VDO and the corresponding sender has a resistance of 51.2 Ohms +/- 4.3 at 90 degree C - according to the VDO spec sheet. You could check that with a 47 ohm or 2 x 100 Ohm resisters in parallel.
You can get one from here:

Not sure if yours has a spade terminal or a screw post. The one above has a spade terminal but my original had a screw post. The actual VDO part number for the one with the spade terminal is 323-801-001-008N. You might be able to see a number similar to this on on your old one. The senders from LR's RR's and SD'1 have a completely different resistance and won't read anywhere near.
Sorry but I don't have the part number for the ECU engine temp sensor to hand but this is a standard item so you should be able to get one from a LR dealer.
Simon.

Don't buy one from rimmers, they sent me one that wouldn't tighten up, so I got one from RPi.
Part number was ETC8496 I think.
Arghh, did they send you the wrong part or was it just a very cheap generic part of such poor quality that it didn’t actually fit? I’ve had pretty good quality parts most of the time from them.Part number was ETC8496 I think.
ETC8496 should do the job for the engine temp sensor. This part number was used by both Rover and LR on the V8.

Thanks for replies gents but the sensors I am talking about are at the front of the engine next to each other. One is as thermotime switch and the other is the coolant sensor for the ECU.
The thermotime switch part number is EAC1385 but they are difficult to get hold of and relatively expensive. This is only involved in driving the cold start injector during cranking. The injector is fitted to the top LHS of the plenum (as viewed from the front). Does yours actually have one fitted? You can probably get away without it. I’ve seen many installations where is has been dispensed with.Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
