I'm off to Italy in a few weeks and it would be rude not to spend a day in and around Modena.

What's worth seeing, there's plenty of things you can pre-book online but if you could only see a couple of things what would they be.

Is it worth booking the track/factory tour on top of the Ferrari museum?, do you even need tickets for the Ferrari museum?

What would you suggest.

You don't need tickets for the museum, it's good but depending on when you go can be busy. During the week, you can hang around the fence overlooking the test track and see if you can spot anything interesting, but mid-August, industry in Italy is pretty much shutdown . . .

When we went to the area, I preferred the Lamborghini museum (it was free too!) but I'm not sure if it is open all the time now.

Nothing to see at Maserati unfortunately . . .

I started picture heavy thread about the Ferrari museam. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area; I went on a saturday in July and it wasn't at all busy and no problem paying on the door.

Make sure you check out the back gate for interesting comings and goings and also head to Fiorano.

Don't forget Pagani is just down the road, as is Lamborghini although you do have to pay now.

Be prepared for official* Ferrari chaps touting for 10 minute rides in Ferraris.

  • Official in the sense that they went to the official Ferrari store and bought a jacket.

Mercato albinelli in the centre of town in the morning. Maybe wander round town. Biblioteca estense, military academy, cathedral, bit of shopping.

Trattoria aldina for lunch.

Ferrari museum in aft. Or check out a place called bio Hombre. Parmesan cheese farm with a big car collection. Cheese and cars. Fantastic.

Caffe concerto for an aperitivo in the eve. Gelato before bed.

That's if any of it is open in Aug.

That's the one on the farm. It's ace.

The farm is ace as well. When I went about 5 years ago, the nice lady in the shop said "yeh, knock yourself out, go and look at whatever you want". I was with my parents, who used to be dairy farmers, so we covered pretty much the whole place. It was great. They had an experimental electric tractor, and a load of old military vehicles as well.

Hi!

I'm from Modena so if you need help do not hesitate to contact me.
People who preceded me pretty much hitted the nail, I'd say that from an historic/artistic point of view the main gem is surely the Duomo (X century pure romanic churc) followed by the Palazzo Ducale Estense, now home to the army officials school, it can be visited upon reservation.
If you are in the mood for museums (not car related) there's the Galleria Estense who has some of the best and most precious books in the world, including a gold paged fiftheen century bible.

Motor related there are the factories of Ferrari, Maserati, Pagani and Lamborghini in the nearby area (only Maseraty is in the middle of the town, they all can be visited upon reservation through the dealer's network), talking of museums there are The Galleria Ferrari in Maranello and the recently opened Museo Casa Natale di Enzo Ferrari, both really worth a visit staying away from the merchandise area. There is then the Museo Panini that it's a private collection in the country, a bit difficult to find and check for openings before you go.

Plenty of restaurants all around the town, you can't really be disappointed even in the worst ones, starting from the Osteria la Francescana (3 stars Michelin) in the historic centre to Ristorante Zoello Via Modena 181, Settecani di Castelvetro a very classical restaurant on the way to Maranello.

If you need further help or info do not hesitate to contact me, and enjoy your stay.
