Question about Origin B2/RoadAngel/Snooper
Discussion
Hi All,
I was wondering about replacing my Bel 550 for a GPS based system. I want to retain a radar detector element though as this is useful for detecting mobile traps. I wouldn't mind the laser detection facility as well. I don't fancy a jammer/diffuser.
As I understand it, the only product to offer GPS/radar detector/laser detector is the Snooper S6-R Neo. Is this right? I heard that the Road Angel and Origin B2 do not have radar detectors. Is this right?
Another thing, I heard that the Snooper S6-R Neo takes an age to log on to the satellite. Is this true?

Hi Johnny,
From what I hear the laser detector is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. If it gives you a warning, you've already been 'done'. It takes, apparently, 0.3 seconds for the laser to lock on and read your speed.
The only real protection is a jammer.
What do others think?

I agree with that in part. My Bel 550 has a laser detector. If I get shot (it has happened a couple of times) by a laser (eg a copper using a hand held unit) then they usually shoot a couple of times, that gives me chance to hit the brakes for the second shot. Also, if I get shot, I slow right down and start thinking of excuses / grovelling.
So does anyone know about the radar detector issue?
Hiya Johnny,
I have the S6-R Neo and I have to say yes it does take a while to get a fix on 3 or more satellites to obtain its current position, but only when its been left switched off a long time and the last position data of the previous satellites it was using in the sky has become void and it has to rescan for new GPS satellites, but once it has a fix it usually stays locked, but half of the problem I believe is the poor GPS aerial that comes with it, it is only the size of a 2pence piece and if you place it on the rear parcel shelf it has been known for the heat elements to effect signal reception too when they are on. It usually takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes from a cold start to get a fix, but if the car remains stationary I find its more like 5minutes. As for the radar detection I think its great, gives you plenty of advanced warning as its a sensitive receiver, but it also gives a fair few false warnings from automatic door sensors and traffic lights on the k band, but I dont mind this as I find its a good check to make sure it still works ok. The laser as cooperman said is pretty pointless the S6-R does detect laser but only in the direction you point the radar detector block (180 degrees).
I Hope this helps

Hi Edwards,
Thanks, yes that helps. Is it easy to mute the radar detector component? I often do this on my Bel 550 when entering a shopping street because all the electric doors set the detector off.
Does anyone think that the Roadangel or Origin B2 pick up satellites quicker than 5-10 mins? And do they have radar detectors?

When you get a K-Band alert you can press mute or cancel on the display and the alert will stop until the next time you pick up another radar emmision.
Another good thing with it aswell is you can turn radar off in the menu and have laser alerts only.
I have found an online manual for it if your interested and want some more information, this says everything there is to know about it.

Hi i have the snooper s4, its a good unit. Dont bother with the optional radar head for it keep using your bel 550. I am using a cheetah mirror with mine. Optional radar head has no band selectivity.
As for the origin b2, that one looks very good, its a bit more work to plump in but all in all seems a good unit. I would have got that one if i didint already have the snooper. At the end of the day its your choice, however i recommend you keep using the bel at the same time

Thanks fellas, very useful.
The problem with using a B2 or Roadangel AND my Bel is that there are then 2 pieces of kit to remove every time I get out of the car. I suspect a passing scum would like to remove them for me otherwise.
I hope that the Origin B2 radar attachment is a goody with the ability to disable certain babds like I have done with my Bel after taking advise from a fellow PHer.
