Are Donington and Bedford drive by limits comparable?
Discussion
Measured from different distances, hence the disparity in limits. Doningtons 98dB is from the side of the track (literally a few metres from the kerb) whereas the meters at Bedford are much further away - don't know exactly but would guess at ~15m or so at least. Haven't been to Bedford for years but i'm sure one of the regulars will confirm a more accurate distance.

What car are you taking? You have a VX220 according to your profile on here? If that I suggest a post on the vx220 forum explaining what set up you are running and someone will prolly be able to give you an idea. If it's a turbo my guess is you'll fail at Bedford. If it's n/a dependent on your exhaust you might be ok.
I think that most cars that can get through at Donny would pass at Bedford but as stated above it's not an exact science comparing different tracks.
If you want to know how close you are to the limit at Donny ask your TDO to introduce you to the very nice lady that does the noise monitoring and ask if she will make a note of what your car is testing at.

Ye my VX220. It's supercharged which causes the noise issues. It's been discussed at length on the VX forum. The outcome being 'you might pass, but most supercharged cars don't bother.'
The 250bhp SC cars have passed on some occasions.
I don't know of any of the 300bhp SC cars that have.
The main difference between the two is the means of measurement.
At Bedford you will be static tested (1m away at 45 degrees from the exhaust at 3/4 revs) with a limit of 101db. You may pass this but the drive by is a tough one. There are 4 mic's at approx 10m from the edge of the track with a limit of 88db.
Donny will be less stringent I am lead to believe with no static and 98db drive by.
Asking another VXT driver is the best idea, or go to your local sprint and get tested to make sure. Don't chance it as you don't get a refund.

Ok. In that case I'll stick my neck out and say you'll probably fail. I can't remember the last time we had anything other than an n/a VX220 on one of our events there (LOT) and when I get s/c cars at say Goodwood on a 98db static day, I know I'm in for some potential issues with the drive by. As people have said, one strike and you're out at Bedford, no second chances. It's been discussed at length on the VX forum. Back from Donington. Drive By was 91.4 db (so well under the 98!)
That was measured on the pitwall so the 20m distance at Donington would be much easier. 87db is ALOT quieter though.
From what I could tell very few people had noise problems yesterday and it turned out to be a great night. I said hello to a chap in a silver VX but he looked a bit mystified when I asked if his name was Hark. That was measured on the pitwall so the 20m distance at Donington would be much easier. 87db is ALOT quieter though.
