Going around a corner last night and my radio cut out.

I fitted a secondary fuse box and wired the stereo into it. The wire goes past the battery i to the bulk head.

Anyway while fault finding the radio i checked the fuse to find the battery strap had snapped.

Not sure what others have used/done but i had a 2.5t strap in my garage, 1 inch wide and fitted this to the original strsp mounting (screw and washer into bulk head) then around the battery into the metal hook with three holes. pulled tight as i could, slightly awkard but managed .

Just curious what have other people done?

Our 3000M has a couple of threaded rods and a bit of angle alloy holding the battery down - works fine.

Can take some pics if it'll help.

Just checked parts manual - there's no pic unfortunately but it does list 2 side stays and a clamp top for the battery with 2 wing nuts, which is what ours has so maybe it's original!

Nope - it's an improvement, like everything on your cars Mike! If TVR had you in product development they'd be more reliable than fastback beetles wink

Ah one thing i forgot to mention. The original small battery died and a previous owner replaced it with a normal car one (normal car... God that sounds bad!!!) its got a Bmw in and the heater box removed (i do have thks) and had a leather (?) strap.

If you could get anymore pics of the battery and braces id appreciate it yes :-)

Does this help any Mick, think this will be the same as yours Gary, you can get them on ebay just search for battery clamp

That's the beastie!

Looking tidy under there smile My battery is t'other way around so the terminals aren't near the clamp bar, does look like a potential short that way around. Not to be critical but could be nasty if you had a bit of a bump and the bar moved yikes

Cheers,
Gary

Taimar battery and heater layout is a bit different (see my picture above) but no doubt that clamp arrangement could still be used? Mine had a big (very home-made looking) frame all around the top of the battery and a threaded rod and nut pulling down halfway along each short side when I bought the car.

Think the bar would have to become very loose to short battery but maybe a little heat-shrink on it to be sure, although I'd be more concerned about accidentally putting a spanner down across those un-insulated terminals?

How are you fixing the threaded bars to the body?

The hooks on bottom of the threaded bars loop under the support bracket on mine but not sure for you if heater layout's different.
I see what you mean Gary, the terminals look closer on pic than they are, its solid though and been no probs for the last 7 years, still might be worth a look. The coffee cup sits on the battery, spanners go on the heater box normally so shorting not an issue. Had some shorting when changing the exhaust manifold gaskets on the S recently, well one short to alternator on final tightning of bolts, it only takes one of those to prompt disconnecting battery....thats after retrieving spanner from next doors garden wobble

Ouch, better next doors garden than now welded to your exhaust though!

Mick, had a look to try and take some pics but you can't really see the bottom of the support brackets. They go into drilled holes either side of the battery tray.
