Last recon i got was 80 quid been on 4 yrs now and no probs but does sometimes get a bit noisy was obtained by my mates garage when the original popped
i think it was from an auto electrics place in Pelaw Tyne and wear. so that price youve been quoted is way over the top. mines an early pre serp 500 .
so may be different than later cars though.

May be of use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-RANGE-ROVER-P38-4-6... type Magneti Marelli A127M-100A pt no AMR 4247 that price you been quoted re-con is obscene rolleyes I would expect re-con about £90/120 recon wink they sometimes come up new old stock on Ebay for around £100 be careful with the new pattern units as some are crap and short lived hence why I said the OE is Magneti Marelli biggrin

Thanks for the replys, much appreciated .
Ime trying to source another unit.
It did this last year and I assumed it was the battery , which I replaced and all seemed fine. I put the 1 year old battery ( Steve Heath fitted a new one when I bought the beast from him in May 10 ) Onto another car, but it's been fine , so I did suspect the Alternator .

What I have learnt is that if the battery and or alternator aren't tip top , both of my Griffs would run rough / lumpy and be well down on power.

The reason I asked if it was tested on or off the car is because an alternator needs a supply from the battery to energise the coils before it can start working. If the 100A fuse is broken the supply will not be there so it appears the alternator is not working.

Agree with the others, a recon should be about 80-100 quid.
