Watching a re-run of Top Gear, when they're talking about the scrappage scheme a few years ago they show this still:

While it's pretty lamentable that all of those cars had to meet an untimely end just because of some government rubbish, what's the naked-looking car (circled in red)? Been bugging me for a while now, I remember wanting to ask the question when the episode first aired, and on subsequent re-runs, but completely forgetting up to now.

TIA

Looks like some sort of kit car to me, but bugger that look at the poor defender next to it, defenders should never die weeping

Looks like something of the sort - glad to see I'm not having an anorak failure moment!

I think I spy a navy blue P38 Range Rover a bit higher up, behind the turqouise Jeep.

If I'm looking at the same car in question it's a classic range rover frown

The story I heard were these motors got shipped to Africa and sold there to cover the cost of the scheme?

Few decent looking motors in that pic, shame to see them scrapped
