Hi,

first post but can i have some thoughts on the above, already owned an M3, loved it but now there becoming a bit chavvy (in my opinion) and would like a 911. The 964's look great but understand they carry some issues?

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Chavvy? Haven't all BMW's been this since at least 1980?

Surely the difference here is if you want to run a modernish car or a classic? I suspect dynamically the BMW is far superior, but the 911 will offer an entirely different driving experience.

OP, go and drive a 911 of that era , if you haven't already done so, see how you get on with it as some just don't.

quite possibly, but they are a superb car and the engine is a masterpeice. Are there any horror stories on the 964's?

OP,

I have owned both a 964 and a E39 M5 so will try to give you some.feedback
964 is a beautiful car to drive and own and feels very "special"
Things to look out for are:
- oil leaks - very prone to this and oil pipes are expensive
- blue.smoke from exhaust - top end rebuilds are needed at around 80k miles but most will have been dome now. Budget 1k if not
- clutch is an engine out job
- rust around wimdscreen panel

I would avoid targa top and tiptronic versions as they are neithernice to look at nor drive
Popular upgrades are lowering to Cup spec and bigger wheels

Still.quite fast even to todays standards and made out of granite

Do it......whilst values are still reasonable. They sre going up in value,.fast.
