I'm just planning this years Christmas/NYE jaunt and have pretty much decied on Mexico for a few weeks taking in the temples for the end of the Mayan calendar and diving in various places.

So far I've only decided on the dates (subject to business approval).

Anybody got any 'must see' or 'must dive' suggestions. I'll probably plan a loose schedule rather than wing it and want to fit in as much as possible.

Any alternative extreme sports suggestions happily received along with all partying suggestions thumbup

Budget... not sure... £5-£6k

We stopped at Playa De Carmen and arrived back only six weeks ago. The location for diving is excellent and as long as you have your PADI certificate, Cozumel which is the island just off Playa is classed as one of the top five dive sites in the world. The diving here is amazing with almost guaranteed sightings of turtles/barracuda/lionfish/moray eels/manta rays/sharks and the usual array of multi coloured fish.

On from there Dos Ojos Cenotes are probably the one of the best underground cave diving sites in Mexico and after diving many times I have to say this was the most amazing diving I have ever experienced.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! I'm all sorted for PADI, advanced etc. plan on doing the nitrox bits whilst out there... done a few nitrox dives but want to push things further.

Cozumel is on the list now, looks like I've got a lot of reading up to do on the various cenotes... or I could just wing it once there biggrin

Are you nitrox qualified? When you say you've 'done a few nitrox dives but want to push things further', does that mean you've used nitrox under supervision but do not hold the qualification? If so, don't do the qualification in Mexico - nitrox is a dry course so you are best sitting in a classroom in the UK when it is pissing it down than abroad in the sunshine when you could be outside sunning yourself.
