Insurance question - going from classic to normal
Discussion
I’m confused.
I’ve owned classic Porsches for the past seven years. Twenty-odd year old sports cars. I’ve had them on classic insurance policies and my insurance has come in the £350–500 range every year.
I’m selling up and considering downgrading to a sensible barge. I’ve been offered p/x with cash my way to take on a late-nineties Volvo.
So I’m looking up insurance for the Volvo. And I can’t get anything under two grand!
Downgrading from a turbocharged Porsche to a sensible Volvo is more than quadrupling my insurance quotes. What the hell? Some mistake, surely …
My best guess is that it’s because my years of classic insurance have not accrued any NCB. So … are there any insurers out there who will take my years of classic ownership into consideration on a normal car policy? Or are they all crazy?
