The Great Pot Hole Thread...
Discussion
I'm not sure if this has been done already but....
I was out earlier and came across a real beast of a pot hole that would absolutely have wrecked my wheels had I hit it and it got me thinking...how about a thread where everyone posts up some pics of the craters they have encountered whilst pottering (get it?) around the UK.
So here's my contribution (to add a measurement of scale I placed my Blackberry next to it) :-

This thread is a bit late. In Chesterfield we have a road called Ashgate Rd and it was terrible. I think it was the two mile stretch that all car components were tested. The wheel was never straight down that road, of it weren't dodging them it was taking the brunt of them. I heard a report that if you stopped to let traffic through some thinner cars had thier drivers side front wheel in a pothole and their passenger rear wheel inside another. I am unsure on if that were true, but it was very bad.
...but after two winters they have changed it and it is quite smooth now so cannot contribute to this thread.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket, but instead of posting here (or perhaps as well) go to your local council web site and tell them. If yours are like mine (Cheshire East) they'll have an interactive map where you can pick the location and describe how bad the hole is, and you'll get an automated acknowledgment which might come in handy if you needed to prove the council were aware of the hole at a specific date.
That said, I tried claiming for a tyre after I hit one and they sent it out to a firm of lawyers who just tie you up in paperwork. For example they send me a map of the road I was on and asked me to identify exactly where the pothole was. I responded that I couldn't narrow it down as there are so many and I didn't notice the dangerous sidewall bulge until I got home, and besides that aren't the council responsible for all of them on that stretch?
I gave up in the end, as I'm sure they intended. I wouldn't have minded so much, but the firm of solicitors they sent it out to wasn't even in the council area, they weren't even supporting local businesses in the claim deflection department.
