Elsewhere PH published this about the 370Z "328hp for £29,975 has to make it an all time hp per £ bargain."

Chinny reckon.

So fly, my PH beauties, fly to where you keep your stats of bhp vs RRP and find me the real all time hp per £ bargain.

No cheating and using second hand car prices, let's keep this clean.

Also lets try to keep bikes out of it until we get bored.

Beat me to it, though there were only 15 offical 500`s, the rest of the range offered good bhp per £ as well & could be bought well below list price -

04 Monaro CV8 329bhp - £28,650 list
04 Monaro VXR 382bhp - £37,000 list
05 Monaro CV8 354bhp - £29,990 list
05 Monaro VXR 400bhp - £37,040 list

How much was a Bentley Blower when new? 175 bhp for less than £100 I would guess.

Not that amazing. A 2012 Fireblade at £12,000 will poke out 165bhp, so just shy of 73bhp/£.

Does it have to be cars that are suitable daily drives, or can we start dropping in things like Atoms and Caterhams?

But cars like that don't have great bhp per £...

Blowers were never factory - W.O. did not approve. Henry Birkin did them himself.

Don't know about cost, but they probably cost a stink lot more than £100

If you start taking 2nd hand examples then its a much wider playing field and the Xsara VTS is easily beaten.

I paid £1070 for a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 - thats 250bhp or just over £4 per BHP.
I had a 120bhp E30 320i that cost £50. Used it as a daily shed for two happy years. 2.4bhp/£ or 42p per bhp, depending on how you look at it.

Which is why I said no second hand cars, because it gets silly.

Reckon the 4th Gen Camaro sold at Vauxhall dealers was pretty good value. Think they were around £23k maybe cheaper. Officially only 295hp (not the made up 288 figure Autocar trotted out). However I reckon they still made north of 300hp. Not too mention factory approved parts from SLP would easily see them at around 350hp.

Of all time? Everyone's using old cars but no-one's adjusting prices for inflation, so I'm going to go with:

Ford Model T. 20bhp for £170. £8.50 per bhp.

A lot of very excitable people on pistonheads currently. Someone creates diverting game and forbids the use of secondhand cars, purely because it becomes silly, and in someways makes the game too easy.

It is still only a matter of time before people come barrelling along with the second hand cars having not listened. This happened on another thread recently didn't it...

You expect people to actually read the original post before posting? nono

ETA: My use of the Model T before was to demonstrate that we need to limit it to current new cars - an extra rule for people to ignore.

Even if they were £1000 that's still only £5.71/bhp wink
