Well, I wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought it may be appreciated by some members of the forum smile

Anywhom, I'm quite into my modern Volkswagens, and as part of the scene I became friends with two guys who work on them, but one of the guys is big into his hot rods, and made this '34 Ford hot rod (RV8 power) for himself

also seen here -

So onto the original topic, earlier in the year a guy completely unbeknown to us dropped into the unit where a lot of the work is done with what appeared to be a fuselage from an aeroplane, with the brief to make a Lakester/Salt Flat Racer using the fuselage as a body. My friend Mike was to make a complete chassis from scratch, and also to basically build the car for him.

Everything is 100% custom made except the rear axle and the front leaf spring setup. There were no plans to work from, no diagrams, Mike was just given a rear axle, an engine (a Yamaha 4 cylinder bike engine), the front suspension, some wheels, and told to make them all fit.

This started in about January this year, and finally today the rolling chassis was complete, it's been worked on inbetween a Mk2 Consul project with a Rover V8 swap.

Some pictures of the rolling chassis -

The aim for the finished article is something like this

Unfortunately we don't think the customer has any plans to use it in anger so it is a bit of a showpiece, but now Mike is rather keen to buid his own, but with a V8 in, and use it in a lot of anger biggrin

Next jobs are to pull it all apart, powdercoat the chassis and associated parts, fit the pedal box and finish the steering

If anyone would like more detailed photos, by all means i will try and get some.

Thanks for looking
Liam

I have long wished I had the resources to go for one of the Land Speed Records, even though in every single class I'd be outclassed. But to turn up to Speed Week with something like this would be legendary. They are beautiful and so classy.

I've just had an idea for where some of my lottery win would go..!!

the more the merrier mate, crack on and post the photos and links!

unfortunately a lot of the build up of the car in the original post was documented on Instagram so a lot of the pictures will be hard to link up to here frown (although if anyone uses Instagram follow "survivorcustoms" or "survivor_customs")

i will do my best to get some more detailed photos next week.

Log onto a website called webstagram, and download the pictures, and upload them to a host of your choice (Flickr, Photobucket etc.)

Not a car but a fella I work with is currently out at Bonneville Speed Week with a bike he's built to attempt to beat the 500cc motorcycle world land speed record.
