So, today I drove my 996 to the local Bentley dealership, to test drive a 612 Scagletti.
Long story short, it was crap. I think there was an engine issue, as it just wasn't that fast, and the semi auto box was pants - like someone hitting you 3-4 times round the head each time it shifted up.
But then they pushed me (kicking and screaming) into a V10 R8.
Holy s
t - how fantastic are they? Engine was stunning, but the brakes were even better. The fastest thing I've ever driven by a peg or two, that's for sure. Simply awesome. And definitely on the list to buy once prices soften a bit...
But, I'm happy to say, still loved the shove in the back with each gearchange from my 996 on the way home. Certainly better value for money currently...

Must admit i've been cheekily eyeing R8s for a few weeks but not sure I could resolve myself to a car which is predominantly (by my observation) the preserve and/or item of desire for 'les poseurs' of which Clapham and the surrounding areas is plentiful thereof.
A great drivers' car, with an image tarnished by s
t pop artists and bellends who drive too fast in 30 zones. Maybe in a few years as values soften. Still very tempting nonetheless.
£45-50k for a junior supercar is pretty tasty. That said, I'm sure i'll just be deferring the inevitable GT3 RS purchase...

And now DB9s are under £30K. Ooh.
My (very, very, very, very, very) rich ex-boss had a DB9 and was firmly of the opinion it was the best every day supercar. Did I say he was rich? Like, got your own chateau and helicopter rich.
And I do like Astons.....but having had a boggo C2 911, I am getting slightly moist about getting a GT3 and reliving my racing days...
