After a nice week up in the Lakes, sadly i was nabbed by a very over enthusiastic 'Parking Attendant' in a Sainsburys car park after i had purchased a ticket.

The henious crime i hear you ask which has given me a £60 fine.......parking with my nearside wheels 3 inches over the white bay line.

Apart from the fact that the 6 mother and baby extra wide bays were taken (the cynical side of me states probably not all carrying toddlers), i deliberatly parked just over the line as their wasnt a bay to the left of me and absolutely noone was or could have been inconvienienced.

I approached the Attendants who were eating and no doubt smiling smuggly at their recent 'catches' in a nearby derelict building. I spoke to a woman who knew straight away what car it was and she even had the ordasity to say that it was a bit harsh and that it would be worth appealing.

Two memebers of the public approached me and couldnt believe that i had been penalised for parking 3 inches into a large area. They also added that the 'Attendant' had taken several pictures of my vehicle. (If only i could get my hands on them so that Sainsburys themselves could see what Cowboys are patroling their car parks.......is it worth it to save a few pounds on a weeks shopping?)

I could go on and on about this and im now deciding my best move seeing as my appeal has been turned down!

Suffice to say.....and i dont do this too often but my 'knob' of the week award has to go to this attendant....may he get his cumuppance...and soon!

Oops - I logged on as the Mrs again

Tony - did you at any point let the little Hitlers know your job? I'm sure they couldn't have rescinded the ticket - just interested if they changed their attitude?

How come they have powers to levy a fine like that? Were you using their car park but not shopping at their store?

Am I missing something here?

Best wishes Tony and everyone,
Dave.

We were using Sainsburys and you even got a refund on your ticket price when presented at the till.

When you look at it, its a Sainsburys car park and 99% of the people parking will go into the shop.

They do however have lots of notices up saying that its patrolled by 'Council Attendants'.

I got a reply back this morning saying that i still have to pay the fine.
The bit that gets me in the reply is the following -:

" I appreciate the fact your vehicle is quite large and when travelling with children you do require more room but had you re-parked after letting your passengers off then the penalty would not have been issued" (There wasnt any 'kin room left, thats the point).
" The carparks are marked out so as to give sufficient access to other users to all areas"(So what has that got to do with the way i parked?)

WTF

They seem to be missing the point that there were no bays to my left and i certainly didnt/couldnt have inconvienience anyone.
Also, if i was simply dropping my occs off then i would have stopped in front of the store like everyone else FFS.

Still deciding whether or not to pay it.

This the store over in Cockermouth? Little Hitler they employ on car park there has bit of a reputation - lots of complaints about it.

Store will eventually lose business over it...

Believe the supermarket company owns the land outright.

Don't shop there myself as prefer the farm shops and markets - but do use their competition - where Hitler does not work!

Nip round there next week with a couple of tame brickies.

Brick 'em in, then take it in turns to give 'em food parcels for the next 20 years.

And tell Sainsburys why you've stopped shopping there. Tesco's cheaper, anyway.

Youve got it in one.....

I will contact Sainsburys and see what they say.

Do you have a reward card showing you use Sainsbury`s regularly? If so, a call to customer services may get the £60 back from the store head office. Give it the `ol "look at how much I spend with you - do you really want to lose it?" line.

Hope this did not spoil your hols in our very pretty county (only fly in the ointment is the Speed Finder General Steviebabes here ) Bet you did not see any remotely dangerous driving at all - apart from the supermarket carpark.

Parking in Cockermouth can be hell sometimes.

Very sad state of affairs.

If the land is privately owned, I would ignore the ticket.

Otherwise, make sure Sainsbury's realise the loss of your business. They will realise the cost of this very quickly.

(I recently gained a social concience and used local shops for my weekly shop - never darken the doorsteps of the "majors" anymore)

Replace "3 inches over the white line bay" with "6 mph over the posted limit" and I think you'll understand why everyone is so wound up with the speed enforcement crusade....

I think you have it there, Hornet.

The car was illegally parked as it was outside the marked bay. The reasons for it and the magnitude of the error are irrelevant -- it's an absolute crime. You could have been just 1" over and the result would have been the same. Just think of the children who could have been affected by your dangerous actions! Perhaps you would prefer to be invited to a day's parking tuition in lieu of the fine, seeing as your misdemenour was not as large as it could have been? You don't get to choose the date or time, naturally. There, you see pictures of the effects of dangerous parking in all circumstances and how many children are killed each year by dangerous parking. It's horrific.

All tongue in cheek of course. But it's how normal drivers feel when they get tickets for 32mph.

Now will you BiBs go and knock some sense into the camera partnerships!?!

Complain like mad to the store. The supermarket game is so tight now that most managers will roll over to any customer request (within reason). I would go and speak to the store manager in person as well.

Live by the sword....die by the sword eh ?

Edited to say that i cant be arsed and will pay the fine. I would rather spend my time relaxing than writing letters to the establishment.

In fact...i will send then a cheque for £80 so that they can all have a drink on me or put it towards getting a life
