Help - VW Polo StalIing Issue

Hi,
My cousin has a bit of an issue with his Mk4 VW Polo which is a 1.4 TDi
He experiences the revs dropping off as the is travelling around a roundabout, he has to dip the clutch to stop the car stalling. Generally the car runs fine so unlear what could cause this under these circumstances.
Any ideas what this could be?
