My latest edition of a certain performance car mag dropped in today and again, they've a gushing review of the good 'ol Integra Type R (DC2). They reckon you can buy one for under 4 grand, but when I checked out Autotrader these were all mega milers and you need 5 or 6 to buy anything with reasonable miles.

On the other hand, there are 3 Megane R26 F1s for sale in autotrader just now with 50,000 miles or so, for around the same 6 grand mark.

So my question is this: Is the DC2 really that good, or would something newer like the under-rated and largely forgotten R26 F1 actually make a better buy?

I'd take the teg over the r26 having driven both. The honda is also far more reliable and better built, and actually handles better too.

The prices are a bit all over at the moment, but for a 5-6k 'minter' it has to have been recently re-bushed (with OEM), no smoke on crossover / lift off and have no rush behind the seats in the arches (it should have been done by now). 4k ones may have two out of the previouis three checked off (bushes is the usual overlooked one).

Apart from that it's a hard car to live with day to day compared to anything else but those lacking quality's make it that much better on a B road. I've not driven anything else like it for the budget, it's just fantastic, it really is a great car, but it requires a lot of passion to keep them going, and you'll get 'more car for your money' if you're looking for an all rounder. Running costs are very low with 15" tyres on most and about £30 for an oil change every 6k, shame it's offset against my engine rebuild...

Prices between imports and UK spec overlap somewhat.

DC2 over the F1. However, an R26:R would be a harder choice.

Given a similar budget, you could tune a DC2 up to a level beyond the R26:R.
Also, I think a DC2 can be bought for a fair amount less than an F1 too.

Dc2 is a very special car to drive, just took mine on track, r26.r was quicker but not sure it was more 'fun' than my dc2...

£4k would get you an average one, I paid 5.5k for a low mileage one, but still went to town with a full bush and. Suspension refresh.... It's now very tight and great for a summer evening thrash....

Dc2 the best drivers fwd made, but the r26 would cover ground far quicker and still reward the driver. Teg needs serious thrashing, the r26 can still be rev'd but has far superior torque so is so easy, too easy to cover ground. I had an ep3 before mine and the engines are so different.

Depends what your really want out of the car. Plus u can spend just over 1k on mods on the r26 and get close to 280bhp and over 300lft with a very capable fwd chassis and lsd. Will cost a lot more to run though than the teg.

DC2 is a fabulous hooligan of a car, but - and a big but - good ones are getting rarer.

4k gets them firmly into chav territory, but if you are prepare dto spend the money and get it back to standard, its a brilliant car.

I really miss mine.

A LOT.

Spot on, it took me 6 months to find mine, looked at so many dogs but I still blew £3k on it straight away.
