why don't more cars have them? I saw this one today - I think it's fantastic! Surely there are no downsides, you can probably have shades (blinds), and air-con as normal so why do so few cars have them?

Today was a beautiful day, I would've loved to have similar on my car.

It was probably broken and stuck in the open position.

Beacuse most cars have climate control or at least air con which makes them pointless.

Although I do have a panoramic roof on my Rocco but that's more for light into the cabin rather than the inch that it tilts :-)

Dad's old '99 Forester Turbo used to have a huge sunroof, it was great.

I love big sunroofs.

Unfortunately the roof you've pictured is well known for going wrong.

But the cheap alternative being a vinyl sunroof as in the 60's and revived by a few manufacturers recently - best of both worlds

My Legacy's sunroof opens halfway to the back seats. It's great. I use it often.

I drive everywhere with the roof open, as long as its not raining. wouldn't buy a car without a sunroof, the bigger the better, ideally glass. I like the light airy feel that they bring and if its not a Convertible it has to have a sunroof. My main issue with buying a second hand Defender (which I really want) is most do not have a sunroof. Absoloutely love the Discovery 2/3 glass roof design..

I had a MINI Cooper S with the panoramic sunroof, it was fantastic on a sunny day with the roof open but unfortunately became creak-tastic when the roof was closed, which rather spoilt things for me.

Both my cars have glass sunroofs. If pottering round town with kids usually open them right up on a sunny day. Above 40-ish usually close them and crank up the a/c. Still get the light though. Best of both worlds.

If a defender had a sunroof, based on how well screwed together mine is, it'd be more of a power shower than a sunroof.

There are downsides to those of us who are tall - the ones with blinds usually takes out 20mm or more of head room (might not sound a lot - but when you are usually close to top of headlining believe me it is). While you can drive with the blind open, where the runners are/were usually (directly above your head) means you can't gain that headroom without sitting slightly twisted - and that caused me lots of issues with my shoulder.

My Dad used to have a Defender with a sunroof and amazingly more water came in through the footwell than the sunroof.

Weight penalty and headroom penalty I'd say.

Headroom. I'm not overly tall but almost eery car I've driven with a sunroof I've found myself banging my head on the framework.

Latest example was the Evoque with the glass roof - fantastic to be in but I just know I'd end up with a cricked neck every time I drove it frown

I do like a sunroof too, for the light and more open feeling. That said, the traditional smaller ones buffer badly unless you have windows open too, and they benefit more people in the back.
