If you're doing lots of long runs in 5th gear then this is very possible. I got over 30mpg on a motorway cruise. Around town with the odd bit of thrashing it should be 24-26mpg. Maybe your car is running a bit lean, what do the plugs look like (see the back of any Haynes manual for a description of how they should look).

The other problem could be not removing the roof. That reduces mpg by 1-2 in my experience. Anywhere from 32 on a long motorway run to low teen when out playing on the B roads is possible. I only average about 22 but the car does get a lot of round town work as well.

Try a track day, hood up about 9 mpg and hood down about 8.9 mpg............

Then afterwards you thought the interior couldn't get any hotter ???
