Hi
Just been for a 'round the block' and the wedge is making a crunching/vibration sound from below the gear stick ?
I lifted the gear stick upwards whilst driving and it seemed to stop, similarly a slight movement of the lever stops the noise, the car was fine yesterday however (I know what your going to say!!) I got the other half to back it off the drive last night as I was rushing to get the van out and she stalled it twice!
Could something have been damaged and is there a linkage under the lever or is it straight into the box?
We have an older Audi TT and reverse is push down then across and forward, wonder if she could have forced the lever downwards ?

sounds like the remote bushes. Try tightening the monuting bolts, if not you'll need to replace the bushes

I had the same thing happen and it was the remote bushes, i did a temp fix by using a cable tie round the assembly and attaching it to a chassis rail and lifted it clear and problem went away which confirmed it was the bushes.

Hi and thanks for the replies
Are the remote bushes the cotton bobbin sized bushes holding the end of the gearbox to the chassis?

Hi

They are the gearbox bushes, the ones you need to find are on top of the gearbox holding the gear tower to the box.

Depends on the tools you have. I found it easier from underneath.
