After a couple of weeks and a nice long drive to Scotland and mostly back the griff gave up...

Not sure what it is yet, but sounds like a knocking conrod...

Stuck on M5 right now waiting on the tow...

After looking it over the manifold had split into 2 pieces on 1 cylinder, hence the loud banging. So after 2 hours the manifold is off, as is the oil filler neck / air box / oil-catch tank etc.. Holes in fingers etc.

So now have to find a welder that can weld stainless and not leave holes in the welds. Should be a small job, smaller than getting the manifold off anyway... Unfortunately I don't have a TIG welder...
