Bugatti have a production car land speed record, but other car manufacters are threatening to take that record away. SSC are making that new Tuwatura thing and Koeingsegg are building the Agera R which is supposed to do speeds in excess of 270mph.
So why don't Bugatti make a 'racing' Veyron? Here's my idea. Take a Veyron Supersports and strip out the entire interior. Then add a new lightweight steering wheel and one lightweight bucket seat. This would save a good amount of weight and should improve the speed by a few miles per hour. Remove the lights and all the other unnessacary things; make it a track only race car like an FXX.
As soon as the works done, take it to the track and improve on the record. Job's a good 'un.
What's wrong with my idea and why have Bugatti not done this?

Of course it would- it would have a lightweight steering wheel
Ahhh I missed that detail, I apologise. The main problem would still be weight, despite having a lightweight steering wheel and a stripped-out interior.
Plus they don't need to make a race version, as said above.

At those sorts of speeds, weight is an advantage rather than a disadvantage since it reduces the amount of work needed on the aero to keep it stable. it's a shame Veyrons don't have back seats though, since they can't be folded down. Perhaps they should wait until the Galiber is released? The main problem would still be weight, despite having a lightweight steering wheel and a stripped-out interior.

Has anyone actually seen a video of the SSC Aero doing 257mph?
One should take any top speed idea with a pinch of salt. All you really need to make a faster car is to be a master of bullst marketry.

I don't know what the fastest car in the world is and wouldn't like to venture a guess.
