Bit of a long shot but its worth a try??
I need a GOOD dynamo for a 1964 Peugeot 404 injection,I think they are the same on carb` models?
OR,a set of new brushes to fit a Paris Rhoen dynamo.(Peugeot fit three different makes of dynamos)

I've replaced brushes in things where you can't get the right brushes by getting a suitable size larger brush and filing/sanding it down to fit - messy, but solves the problem.

No point going to Halfrauds, look for an electric motor reconditioner for example, preferably in a shed round the back of an industrial estate

My thoughts exactly. Getting your own dynamo refurbished is likely to yield a much better result as any replacement you buy will be used and has probably endured a simular working life as the one that has gone belly up!

Thanks lads,this afternoon I left my dynamo in just the sort of place you described.An old chap who has a workshop by the side of his house just out of town.Piles of old dynamo`s,starter`s,alternator`s all old stuff,and the chap is defo old school.The place looks a tip but I expect he will get the old unit running like new?? I found a new?? one on the net in France for about 190euros!! some thing tells me my old chap will be a lot cheaper.

Good stuff. My thinking is that there isn't actually too much to go wrong in a dynamo- the casing, windings and shaft can be re-used indefinitely. The commutator can be cleaned up so really all it is likely to need is bearings, brushes and re-soldering, and probably rectifier/regulator replacement.
Hopefully if matey boy took the job on, he's capable of doing the work and testing it afterwards.

If you need a workshop manual for one of these PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post to you. It's well thumbed and rather scruffy, but still very usable.
