335i Auto Gearbox issue after motorway trip

I have just done an hours worth of motorway driving and i have noticed that when driving in auto around 40mph and i put my foot down slightly, there seems to be less power, or at least the car seems to be in too high a gear. I did the same journey on motorway yesterday, and it was fine afterwards.

Any ideas please?

Was there an orange 'Gearbox' light on in the center display ? The symptoms sound like 'limp mode', this limits maximumum turbo boost pressure. What year is the car ?
