what a weekend, throttle cable snapped on the friday had to wedge the throttle open at 2k to get home (11pm mind you!) and fix a temp replacement cable whilst waiting for the new to arrive this week

thought might as well sort the windows (v slow) so fixed that and also stuck on the new drivers side door seal. The problem is it still bloody leaks!

i have put the join of the seal about 4 inches back from the front of the door, but there seems to be a "indent" in the corner and this is where its leaking from. It will only leak if you spray water near the carbon covers on the windscreen. you can see the water running next to the seal from insider and then as soon as you spray near the carbon bit it flows in! frown

any ideas anyone? ive attached a pic below (ignore the join at the minute)

I found that the water would accumulate in the seal then over flow into the cabin. I solved mine with a bead of silicon around the area you have shown. Whilst not a perfect fix does the job and keeps the car was tight.

thanks for the replies, with regards to the silicon where did you put the bead? on the inside of the seal, ie between the groove of the first bubble? or on the outside? if that makes sense?

to fix the windows i took of the door cards, checked the voltage and the motors and saw it was about 11.5 instead of 13, then i checked the connector and they were really badly corroded, so cleaned them all up and resealed, voltage was back to 13. Then i fitted new window felt into the runners, on both and then put a load of degreaser into the regulator, and then put a ton of wd40 - the amount of crap that came out was ridiculous, then some white spray grease, and things were much much better! really want to get some waterproff connectors and re-do the lot but that will wait for another day, as per usual when you want it no one has it!

I tried it inside the seal but the seal doesn't grip. So in the end on the outside filling up the edge where the water can get to

There you go. Inside the edge of the seal and body. Although you can't see any there in the photo.

Are you sure it's the seal? water can get into the front (windrescreen down) from lots of places it may then run to the sill to pool.

so.. after lots of refitting the old seal etc its still leaking! frown what a pain in the arse..

it looks like the water is running down from where the windscreen a pillars area (under the carbon covers) then going down to the corner as in the top pic and then where the crease is over the seal and into the foot well!

anyone have any other suggestions? i don't really understand where to put the silicon frown . It never did this until i removed the windows to sort out there slow speed etc, could it possibly be that the windows need to pulled further forward towards the a pillar?

You could try cutting the rubber. I did this on one of mine and it worked, I think it was on my old 350I.
Before you do this tho try using talcum powder on the seal to see if it highlights the path of the water. If it is running down the seal then into the footwell just before it goes into the well cut half inch of rubber away from the seal then the water will run out on the door side rather then into the car.
Experiment with the old seal first.

Once the seals have been removed the barb becomes useless, you need to squeeze the area back together to get it to grip better. You could always try adjusting the door catch a couple of mm to bring the door in closer to the door frame

i just had both my door seals replaced by bespoke , importantly they put cuts in them so any water flows out rather than in, they did a much better job than i would have done as i was told just to knock them on and cut to length , they did say it wouldnt cure the problem a 100% and it hasnt but a slightly damp edge to the carpet is preferable to the 2" of water i was faced with .
