Hi All,

I know everyone is different but I'd love to know others experiences of the best relaxing holidays you've been on? Whether that be a sitting on a beach in the UK for two weeks, climbing a mountain, Maldives or anywhere else?

Cheers,
Ben

yes I may be searching for inspiration but seemed like a good idea for a thread anyway

Boating on the Norfolk Broads.

You have 2 choices for the day, drive the boat, or not. There's pubs to stop at, scenery to see.
You can eat when you want, go where you want - all at 4-6MPH.

I don;t need a beach holiday (get that 24/7 here, so it's perfect antithesis to here) so I love it up there.

Much as I love a good tropical storm, I can see that landing in a sea plane during one could be a bit buttock-clenchy! hehe

Otolith, was that the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu? If so, what's the evening dress code as the details I have suggest long trousers for evening wear which is a bit more formal than I'm used to? smile

Bloody luxury!

When we shut the place down we had 2 of us in an iso with about 3" of space to move around in for 9 months!

Great days though.

Yep. Not remotely formal, I just took a few pairs of what are actually walking trousers, but a very thin lightweight material, and wore them with cotton polo shirts. It's hard to feel formally dressed when you are barefoot!

We've been to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu too! In fact we've been to lots of islands...we are lucky that in the last 8 years the Maldives has been a bit of a second home to us and we were going twice a year to do our no shoes no news breaks.

Absolutely stunning collection of Atolls and lagoons with superb diving, lovely people and out of this world cuisine; now that we are about to become a mum and dad I doubt we will be going for a couple of years though.

Every time we have been we have come back home and made significant life changes - that is the effect this beautiful part of the world will have on you!

ps Not all of the islands on the Maldives are this stunning - unfortunately some islands have targetted a certain type of person and are now too affordable and as a result if you like classy then the cheaper family type places should be avoided. Personally I would avoid any island that only offers All Inclusive as they attract the heavy drinkers which ruins the ambience. That is of course just my opinion! If you are into diving then Full Board is the way to go - unless you like to do a morning dive and an afternoon dive in which case you are better going HB as you may find it a bit of a rush to eat, dive then eat dive again in quick succession - plus of course sometimes if you do a double dive you will stay out on the dhoni and won't even come back for lunch!

Also for the serious divers you have to consider a live-aboard as you can visits lots of dives sites - 3 a day!

Maldives for me too. Pick one of the smaller islands and you don't see anyone until meal times.

Another vote for

Yup, the Maldives.

But another favourite, quiet, relaxing break was in 2007 when we rented a small cottage in Cannich (North of Drumnadrochit in the Highlands) for a week.

Haven't been there for donkeys. Wooden boat regatta springs to mind back in the late '90s,

Sailing on a small yacht around North Majorca a few years ago. Bit of sailing from one cove to another in the morning, lunch and a nap and a bit of a swim in the afternoon. Repeat.

Absolutely brilliant!

Another sailing one for me. Barbuda, sister island to Antigua, only has a couple of hotels, an 8 mile beach and very little else. Bliss.
