Bar Recommendation W1 - quaint & quiet!
Discussion
After a recommendation for a first date (blindish!) drink in W1. Thursday early evening. Hopefully wherever we end up will not be full of hip noisy kids & will be pleasantly relaxed, I prefer not to pretend to act cool - not my style. We are both early 40's.
Any suggestions? Ta very much . . .

Tapas bar so you can get some food if you want without "having dinner"...busy enough so there won't be any awkward silences!
Same theme but bigger and again you can sit at the bar is Iberica

I prefer Marylebone to Mayfair it's a bit less in your face.....so more appropriate for a first date in my mind. Unless you want to set a high bar!
The bar at Hush might not be a bad shout

That's certainly not quiet! The espresso martini is to die for though.http://www.theprovidores.co.uk/index.php

Thanks guys 'n girls. Actually I did say quiet, but relaxed is a better choice of word! I walk past the providores often & it is quite a busy-looking joint.
It is reasonably busy but in my mind that's a good thing....you don't want to be somewhere too quiet on a first date (awkward silences), the service is good and if things "go well" you can order tapas without the formality of having "dinner". Just make sure you get there early enough to get a decent table.Speaking as someone who took the now Mrs Cheib their on our first date

If you want somewhere a bit quieter the other tapas place on Great Portland St has a good bar to sit at...it's much bigger.
