Hi All,I had to have my best mate PTS today all I can say is that my heart is well and truly broken,he went to the bridge while he was laying in the garden and my brother helped me bury him under the apple tree, things will never be the same again without him.Bill & Zak the Akita.

Oh Bill weeping

I'm so sorry for your loss, Zak was a beautiful dog & I know I was one of many watching your threads to see how he was doing, and hoping he would recover.

You've done everything you possibly could, without making him suffer.

Gutted for you frown. Especially as he had seemed to rally from his recent illness. So so sorry for your loss

I am so, so sorry for your loss. It is such an sad thing to experience. I totally understand your heartbreak as I have just experienced the same only 4 weeks ago.

I can assure you time will heal you. I am still in a bit of denial and expect my fluffy best pal to be waiting for me when I open the door or under my bed when I reach down in the night.

Try to remember the special times and block out the "final moment".

Hi Everyone, thanks for your kind thoughts,I came home from work on monday to find him waiting by the door for me,something he had not been able/wanting to do for quite a while and was something I did miss badly he came out on the drive for a cuddle and this probably sounds silly but I think he knew it would be the last time he would be doing this for me,when I got home tuesday he was in a terrible state unable to stand and constantly weeing himself and he was obviously stressed at the mess he was making, their was no way that I could let him be that undignified so we called the vet who came a little while later which gave me the chance to have one last cuddle with him and he went to sleep in my arms.Bill & Zak the Akita.

That's very sad. Something similar happened with our first family dog. He knew it was the last time - he sniffed round outside and we all said our goodbyes. He had a huge tumour. We knew it was the right time and have done with our other animals. I know it's heartbreaking but giving them a dignified end is the best we can hope to do.
