Evening Blat!

As It's been such a lovely evening in North Staff I decided to get the wee beastie out for a blat.
I headed for some nice A&B roads in South Cheshire with absolutely no destination in mind. You guys are so on the money - In between bouts of extreme concentration on the twisties to burbling behind the odd slow un I NEVER STOPPED GRINNING!
Even when on a couple of occasions I got a little over eager to get back on the throttle (yes I will learn but I have only had the car for just over a week) and the back stepped out it just felt so controllable and added to the fun factor too.
This car is so much more of a serious driving experience than my previous car (996 C2S) and In my book any modern Porsche is a first rate performance car, which says a lot about TVRs eh!
Anyway did anyone else get out for a blat?

Funny you should say that, the evening sunshine told me to go out for a take away chinese, the OH out with work mates dog been fed and walked, TVR needed a BLAT. A & B roads round warwickshire, here we come. 92 miles later reached home, chinese meal had to be microwaved, TVR gently ticking as it cools down. Not much traffic around except a pretty blonde in a silver MX5 who stopped alongside me at some traffic lights over the M40 junction 15, gave her a smile wave and then I noticed a child in the passenger seat smiling as well. Hope he appreciated the noise, as I gunned the throttle on the green light.
Anyone else done nearly 100 miles for a take away meal, from the shop that is only 1 mile away.?

Took my P & J out for a brief run this afternoon. Weather was good in East Staffs and A50/A500 area too! Had mine for 6 years and it still puts a smile on my face, just hoping that the weather stays reasonable for the next few weeks, so that I can get out a bit more.

After making her look all sparkly over the weekend, it would have been cruel to go to the gym in the daily driver, so out she went, making loads of noise and turning heads as she did. Funny, the journey home was at least twice as far as the journey there ??? !!

Noticed a rather nice blonde in a Mini Cooper S having a sneaky glance - at the car, not me !!

Popped out for a blast around Warwickshire too, into Stratford-upon-Avon lots of nice burbling pops n bangs, this is why we own these things I guess.

So where were you. I live in Stratford on Avon. I got back at about 8.40ish, in my S2.

I'd been around lowsonford, hockley and via Henley-in-Arden into Stratford, quick tour around the basin and town centre then off home to Hatton, might go for another on Thursday if its another nice evening.

About the same as my T350 (maybe some 10 bhp less and a few hundred kilos more weight) with a little less torque overall.
The 911 does however have pretty strong low down torque. I loved the car and had given up on getting a GT3 (after 8 months of trying - I got very close to buying one but they could not find the first two years of it's service history!!) as the prices are IMHO over cooked. Don't get me wrong they are great cars but £35 to £36K for either a 53/54plate - just not worth it - particularly when the dealer takes the p*** on your p/x. Some early Mk1's are still trying to retail in the mid thirties too. On top of that the market seems pretty static with not a lot of movement either in sales or new cars.
In my opinion , and it's only my opinion, Carrera 2's and 4's are just not in the same league in terms of driving commitment/involvement as the TVR.
That said any 996/997 is a fantastic sports car and are a much better bet if you have to use them day in day out.

I may just see you out there then. Make the most of the sunshine and full tank of fuel before the possible sale back to its former owner, if that happens I will be looking for a good Chimaera. So you probably went by the Fleur De Lys pub, a good place to park by the canal and get a nice pie. I have not taken the TVR down past the Theatre in Stratford those road humps look a bit steep for the exhausts. I bet it sounds wicked through the narrow lane by the Dirty Duck pub?

I planned on doing similar last night with it being such a warm evening. However, I'd already arranged to make a pizza for me and the wife.

Should have gone for the drive, my pizza was st. I'll stick to driving in the future instead of thinking I'm Gordon Ramsey.

Well it's not to show off the car in the Gym car park as the car park is soem office car park underground.... not outside the gym in full view....

Very true.
Have a 997 4S as a daily drive and it's a brilliant car, fast, comfortable and also great in the twisties but when it comes down to a spirited blast on the back roads it's no match (in terms of fun) for the TVR.
A GT3 comes very close I think but that still lacks the presence of a TVR. And you really feel the weight difference.

Believe it or not I actually tried to rally one of those in the late 60's - lol!

Well spotted yes a Riley one point five, in the paddock at Shelsley Walsh last weekend, just before the down pour. Loads of other interesting cars there, from MX5s to a 1932 Wolseley Patrick Special , Ferrari and Mazzas, Jaguar and Aston Martin and so many others. Not doing the hillclimb but chatting and comparing notes. I uploaded some photos on the cool classics spotted thread.
Did you have much success with the rallying?

I had to go to Sheffield yesterday from Kidsgrove, and seeing the clear blue sky there was no way i was going in the Volvo! Took the A53 up to the Winking Man, then a scenice twisty route across the hills to Longnor, Monyash, Chatsworth, Frogget, Hathersage and into Whirlow.

And then done the reverse trip this morning

Hi Mike - in my mind hell yes - in reality no not really. Then tried an MGC - oh my God was that a mistake!
We must have ended up in over a dozen ditches and hedges - no matter what you did it turned like a Route Master ha,ha. Then we saw the light and got our first Mini Cooper S.
Had a few high placed finishes in that and then ran out of wonga - such is life.

That was my 4th attempt to download a photo of the TVR, I tried a much better one at my work along with workmates Ford Prefect, Triumph Tiger the bosses Chisel Porsche replica, and a Triumph Vitesse. Wouldn't work for some reason.. Making As much use of the S2 just incase, as I posted earlier the previous owner wants to buy it back. So torn between letting it go, as there is more to do on it than I first thought, it was an impulse purchase, and foolishly the first one I had ever sat in let alone driven, I caught the bug very quickly. Now I have sold my MGB I have more to spend on a replacement, so could get a more complete one or even a Chimaera, oh the dilemma.
