You put a deposit down now, throw the dice & hope you'll be able to run it for nowt (or a small profit) for 6 months once it's released.

smile

I'll go for Alfa 4C but rumours of LHD only have me worried....

That'd be a bonus with the foreign buyers and rarity over here i reckon. Good shout.

Ferrari F40

Still massively undervalued in my opinion. 10 years ago I remember them going for around 150k. Starting price now is £300k.

As far as new cars go, maybe the new Porsche 918.

Funny you should mention Porsche, someone on the Porsche forum suggested the forthcoming mecan 4x4 thingamebobby! Think the Evoque money boat is clouding some judgement!

Thread title should say new cars only, as first post wink

Good call actually, but I think they'll be pumping them out at quite a rate plus differing specs might muddy the waters.

6 months with no depreciation?

Maybe not, i'm just guessing really. The biggest problem with the 4c would be if it ever gets made in the first place! There seems to be no definite "plan" yet,

Mate who works at the local dealers has taken two deposits & letters of intentions, one from an 8C owner.

My boss has ordered one as his retirement present. He's no.7 on the list. I also heard from a source close to Alfa that they will make it in RHD. I think they'll be a good investment, if only I had a spare £50k.

I've been looking at these and trying to work out if I could buy one. I've been looking at how the 8C has held its value and it seems the owners simply don't drive them. 58 plate for sale, 3,000 miles yikes £125,000. Can anybody confirm what these retailed at? IIRC it was 150k+ so aren't exactly depreciation proof!

Are the making the 4c in limited numbers? I think they made 500 8c's and it would seem 495 of them were bought as an investment hehe I can see the same happening for the 4c's frown

With good ones at £500k.

Whilst on the subject of dancing donkeys, the 512TR seems to be appreciating nicely too.

An F Type is an interesting call but since I'm not a company director, I wonder about a Mk 7 Golf GTi? If you put your name down early you wouldn't lose much if you sold it while it was still in vogue. Six months would be about right, again? Certainly the Scirocco was sought after long after its launch. Rightly or wrongly, there's a certain upper middle class angst about being in a new VW that'll never surround the new Focus ST or Honda Civic Type R.

I'm convinced 8C values are nothing like the prices people are asking.

There are FAR FAR too many of them for sale - almost all in near-new/low mileage nick - and the prices are just silly.

Do not make the mistake of thinking asking prices are 'values' - they never are (see also the housing market).

I'll sell you this thing I bought for £10000. It only cost me £250, but I say it's worth £10000, so why hasn't someone bought it off me yet?

(You see this sort of thing a lot with house sales).

Ditto for most cars in this price bracket. 10k miles seems leggy for a 2 year old £150k car.

I used to do deliveries and a regular customer had put their house on the market and so I said "You're moving because my deliveries suck?"

"No" they said "it's just an estate agent told us our house is worth £x and so we're trying for a sale"

Week later I'm back and the sign is gone

"Staying then"

"Hell yes, we only had one person look and they offered us a fraction of what the estate agent said they would"

It was on the market for 10 days!! What on earth goes through the minds of these people?

and yes, private plates, they're all 'worth' nothing at all unless you know someone who wants it (preferrably 2 people as that's when things gain value fast!)

That'd be the least of my concerns.....actually contemplating buying one would have me sanctioning myself to the local spacious comfy-room.
Now a Zonda, that'd be a completely different story altogether.
