Spacious, comfortable car for under £2k?
Discussion
Out of the 8 or so cars I've owned from an MR2 to a VW Bora, the only car that has been spacious is my 147. I'm thinking of another just for that reason. I can't be picky with this budget but hoping I can find something good for taller people with a comfortable interior. Preferably a diesel..
As above, I've owned a few different 2000> VAG cars and they're just too small and the center console is horrible placed. (makes it feel much small than it is because it's so low)
On my list is an Alfa 147 JTD. I've owned a diesel for my last two cars and even though soon my miles won't justify a diesel, I do prefer the cheaper tax and insurance as well as the pull the diesels have.
Cheers

The 'EP' or 7th gen Civic was one of the most spacious cars in it's class at the time and is well worth a look;

I'm surprised you found the 147 felt roomier than the VAG group cars however, and citing a low dashboard as a contributing factor strikes me as odd. Most people find a lower dash makes a car feel more airy and open...
If space and comfort are the main requirements, have you considered a larger car? Volvo S60 is supposed to be comfy, as are the Rover 75, Saab 93 etc.
Usual suspects like the Mondeo et al are also worth a look imo.

E39 5 series?
Always come up, always wanted one but worried they'd be a bit big (exterior?) Will have a look anyway.Codswallop said:

Will give them a look, thanks. Was looking at a Civic a few years back.

The 147 is 'a lot' bigger than the VAG range for both the driver and passenger. in the Alfa my legs fit nicely inside the tunnel whereas with the VAG range, my knees are obstructing the stereo/heater. Head clearance is also better as I'm not inline with the door frame. I prefer the high door trims too.
The new MK6 Golf has a high dash and high center console, well, high everything and it feels extremely roomy. My ideal car.
