M6 illuminated sills - warranty
Discussion
My car is covered by the BMW AUC warranty at present and my drivers sill has no illumination and the passengers is very faint (not sure how bright they are actually suppossed to be?). I phoned the dealer to make sure this was covered and he's definite that it isn't even though I told him there has been a few on here that have successfully had it replaced. Can those that have had it done tell me if there was any hassle or anything specific to mention to get this sorted (I mentioned it's an electrical component and not a seal but he says wiring is not covered). My dealer is 120 miles away and he says he can't but a preliminery quote through without inspecting the car for codes etc so I'm loth to travel and miss a days work only to be told sorry not this time. Any help greatly appreciated.
A lot of the warranty claims are down to dealer discretion - and 'trim' is always awkward anyway as it's specifically excluded in the AUC warranty terms.
If they decide it's 'trim' then they're unlikely to cover it except out of goodwill.
Although there's no mention of excluding 'wiring'.

What is covered by the BMW AUC Warranty?
The BMW Approved Used Car Warranty covers all factory fitted mechanical and electrical components. In fact, the BMW Approved Used Car Warranty is so comprehensive, so close to our New Car Warranty, we thought it more helpful to list those few items it does not cover - rather than all those that it does.

The only items not covered by the comprehensive BMW Approved Used Car Warranty are:
Brake and clutch facings, discs and drums, bulbs and fuses, channels and guides, weather strips and seals, handles, hinges and check straps, TRIM, upholstery and cosmetic finishes, wheels and tyres, wiper blades and arms, glass, auxiliary drive belts, coolant and fuel hoses, the cleaning and adjustment of any component and all service items or items that will require periodic replacement. This BMW Approved Used Car warranty does not cover corrosion.
The emboldened sentence concerns me, as it could be a catch all for anything that would EVER need replacing - e.g. a transmission may need replacing/rebuilding after 100k.The only items not covered by the comprehensive BMW Approved Used Car Warranty are:

Although I've not experienced a claim under the AUC scheme for a number of years I've always found the 2nd statement refers to parts you would classify as "serviceable items" but tend not to be replaced every service.I did wonder with a LAMBDA sensor once. Apparently they have a limited life-span. However the dealer agreed to replace it under warranty so it never became a problem.
A guy on the m5Board had his replaced - they failed six months later, replaced and failed less than six months after that. The seals just seem to be not up to the job at all, rain water from the road causes the failure apparently. Anyway another guy on that forum, fixed his himself and put much better lighting in while he was at it, looked far better than OEM. I'll have a look for the thread later.
I bought an M6, both sills were gone, but I didn't notice at the point of sale - it was daytime! I tried to get them replaced under the AUC warranty, but got refused twice, from 2 different garages. Eventually I got it done by the supplying dealer after kicking up a fuss, and involving BMW customer service.
