Can't get the search facility to work.
A few months ago, there was a thread on the best jack to get to be able to remove Aston wheels.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please

When you buy it, it's worth lubing all the myriad pivot points as it's built dry.

I was in Costco Derby yesterday and they currently have in stock a good solidly constructed trolley jack

I wouldn't have one of those given to me...... Following total failure of one some years ago.... yikes

I now use a Costco sourced aluminium jack rated at 2 tons..... Nice low entry, large rubber pad, and much better build quality....

Cost was around £100smile

In fact, it's so good I bought 2 so that I can jack each side and lift either the front or the bac, nice and evenlysmile

I have one of these Machinemart jacks, for better or worse, and up to now no problems at all, fingers crossed. Was it your own experience or something you read about? If your own experience, were there any signs I should be looking out for on mine?

I must confess up to now i havent used it on the Aston, but that's cos I can't decide where the jacking points are with any degree of certainty!

Ah well. For the record mine works fine. It's not the last word in build quality butit is nice and light and it's aloominum and anodized blue. You must make sure that the handle is properly turned to lock the valve otherwise yes they can sink unexpectedly.
I'd never work under a car just on a jack anyway. IMHO the jack is merely a means to get it onto some stands

As mentioned low entry is a must.

Unfortunatly it was my own experience....

Basically as I was lowering the car (not the Aston) the chassis Of the jack sort of twisted, and it bent the piston, allowing high pressure oil to piss out all over the place... I was using it on my TVR so no where near its supposed rating....

Machine mart weren't interested, so I went down the Costco route....

Hmmm slightly worrying as I've just bought that one too ..... Used it once already with no issues ... But will make sure I'm using stands as well going forward.
