Knock after restoration
Discussion
Hi
Having recently completed a nut and bolt restoration of a Fiesta RS Turbo I have a knock coming from the passenger side front.
When driving there is a loud clonk/rattle coming from the front somewhere. It can sound really bad as if a road wheel is loose. So far I have:
Removed the suspension strut and checked the spring
Checked all nuts and bolts are tight
All parts are new inc track rod ends, wishbones, anti-roll bar stabilisers etc
I had a look tonight and checked the transmission bearer was tight and all visible parts are secure.
I then went for a drive and the noise is still there. Its fairly sporadic, sometimes when going over a speed bump it makes the noise, other times it does not. It even happens when the pot hole/bump in the road is not that deep.
I then drove into a local car park with lots of speed bumps, when driving over them 90% of the time I could cause the noise. I then tried applying the brake slightly whilst driving round the car park and with the brake depressed the noise did not appear.
I tried this on a short test drive and again with the brake pressed a little it could be a coincidence but I could not get it to make the noise.
Is there any way the brake disc could be wobbling causing this annoying noise? Hence when the brake piston clamps the disc slightly the noise goes?? I did not put the brake disc grub screws back in as always assumed the wheel nuts would hold it tight.
Any advice would be great!
Cheers

It is likely to be a front brake caliper/pads rattling about, is the spring clip fitted to the caliper correctly?
Could also be caused by worn caliper slides (you're more likely to get this sort of knock with new pads because the slides are further out).
ETA Could also be loose caliper bolts.
